Yeovil to London – Return ticket tops £200 !
The recent problems with signalling and defective stock have led to a number of lengthy delays/cancellations to services on the Waterloo to Exeter line.
An increasing number of people now commute regularly (ie at peak times) to London. Those who leave before 6.30am may be aware that there is an alternative service from Yeovil Pen Mill to London at 06.20 (Arriving Paddington via Castle Cary at 08.38). What many people will not be aware of is the astronomical fare charged by GWR for this route. From January 2017 the Anytime return fare will rise to a whopping £204. That’s almost double the fare on South West Trains!
At times of disruption, the SWT tickets are normally valid from Pen Mill but we strongly advise you to check the SWT website first. We hear tales of guards on the GWR service trying to charge travellers the excess fare – because they had not been advised of the arangmement to accept SWT tickets. If you do choose to use the 6.20 service when SWT trains are disrupted, ensure you buy your tickets at Yeovil Junction and then drive to Pen Mill. If you buy your ticket at Pen Mill – you are likely to be charged the GWR fare!
